November 2: Haloween is scheduled around church event, trick or treating and other events our youth plan to attend.

Activities will include haunted forest, Halloween Carnival, Community Center movies all night! Like all eventsere is no cost to communityth.

 

December 20 - Santa is coming to SFR for photos and to give a box of toys to each of the youth

 

December 31 - Dance, New Years Party and Lock-in for community youth

Neighborhood Watch Meetings - First Monday of month at 7 p.m,

 

Adult Bingo - Every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

 

*Craft Day/activity - First Sat of month 2 p.m. (Dates will change during Summer Youth Program)

 

*Youth Movie Night - Second Sat of month at 7 p.m. (drinks and snacls provided).

 At least first movie "G"  rated - parents of young children should ask about second/arrange to pick up child after if needed

 

Event Planning Committee - Thursday at 2 p.m. (Now working on SFR Summer youth Program)

 

*Youth Bingo - Last Friday of month 7 pm to 8pm

 

Yard-of The-Month (starting in May) Winning family has the honor of having sign in their yard that month and receive $50 off their rent the following month.

Special Spring/Summer Events

Earthday (Monday, April 22) We will celebrate by starting our beautification projects of planting flowers and trees. Tentative date set for April 20 at 1 p.m.  May be resceduled due to incliment weather and/or if plants are delayed - Be sure to check the community bulletin board for updates.

 

Mother's Day Crafts on May 4.at 2 p.m.

 

Community Clean up - free loading and hauling of furniture/large items to dump. Sponsored by SFR Neighborhood Watch - Date to be announced.

 

Armed Forces Day - Crafts and letters to SFR soldier overseas on Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m. (also finishing up on Mother's Day Crafts as applicable)

 

Week of May 17 - Graduation party for graduating seniors in our community (planning not completed at this time)

 

Memorial Day, Craft Day May 25, 2013 - wreaths or flower arrangements made for those who have passed in our community and loved ones

 

Father's Day crafts on Sat., May 8 at 2 p.m. (If not completed may schedule following Sat. for completion)

 

July 4 - still under planning but will include fireworks, free food/drinks, playday in the park and park sleepover for youth.

 

Back to school bash in planning stages. Will include food, drinks; lockin/movie night for community youth.

SFR Summer Youth Program

Still in planning stages.

 

A brief outline as much will be based on previous year (but with more!)

 

Mon-Fri - Free Brunch followed by craft activity

Field trips to The Splash (Sherman)

Tutoring classes as requested

Sports activities (golf, softball, volleyball...)

Water sports in the park - water balloon/squirt gun fights, wading/swimming pools, water slide(s) for different ages/sizes, cookout etc.

Reading club

Reading circle (teen youth reading to young children)

TENTATIVE. Six Flags (Please keep bringing in those Coke points so we can get enough tickets!)

Easter Event

Check out our Easter link for photos of the 2013 annual Easter Egg hunt. Nearly 1200 hidden eggs, two pinantas, free hot dogs, snacks and drinks are part of the festivities

The first community clean-up of Spring was held this month (May). Youth and adults pitched in to clean around fence lines, dumpsters and yards. Bags were left near the roads so a volunteer could drive up and haul bags to the dumpsters. Drinks and brunch were provided to volunteers and awards given to our two top youth volunteers, Melissa and Lydia. Good job everyone!!!

SFR playground recently expanded to add 2 swingsets, monkey bars and another slide. Thanks to everyone who supports our fundraiser and donated to help the kids.

 

 

SFR Summer Youth Program

Sports activities, including (so far) golf, softball, volleyball

Free Brunch Monday - Friday

Followed by craft activities

Bi-weekly scrapbooking (adults and youth)

Coffee and conversation - Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. in the community center

All events are held in the SFR Community Center unless otherwise noted.

 

Events/dates are subject to change but tenants will be notified and/or notice will be on the SFR bulletin board in front of the community center

Halloween

Community Halloween events include haunted forest, halloween carnival, costume contest and trunk or treat. These events will take place on Sat. November 3. Scheduling was planned around school, church and family activities. Events start at 6 p.m.  Photos will be online the week of the 4th!

Santa is coming to SFR

SFR Christmas party will be held on December 20 at 5:30 p.m. Santa will arrive at 6 p.m.

 

All tenants be sure and sign up your children so we will be sure to have plenty of gifts!!

There will also be a sign-up sheet for anyone wanting to provide snacks for the party.

New !! New!! New!! Summer Education Enrichment Program

2012 Summer Program in planning stages: 

After the sucessful summer lunch and community summer programs, Sunrise Family Resort is raising the bar for the 2012 summer. 

 

 

We are looking for qualified College students for interships to assist in an Education Enrichment Program. 

 

Programs we would like to offer include:

 

1. Weekly writing and debating

2. Math and science

3. Sports

4. Music instrument and dancing

 

In additon, we are seeking volunteers for vocational short classes during the summer.

Only two more weeks to the biggest loser contest. To see updated stats, be sure and check out out Facebook page as stats are updated at weekly weigh-ins.

 

The winning team will have the choice of splitting the cash pot or having a beauty day at a local salon.

 

8/1/12  Winners of The Biggest Loser were Karen and Danita for most percentage of weight lost. Winning pot was close to $300!

In this contest everyone was a winner, so congrats to everyone who participated!!

Activities in the planning stages include:

SUMMER FUN & BLOCK PARTY

tentative date: July 1. Event will include games and fun, barbeque, live music/block party etc. Still in planning stages - more information to come. This event is being planned by SFR's volunteer event coordinator.

 

SFR SCHOLARSHIP

Tentative: Spring 2013.  Education is important to all of us at SFR and to assist students in their future educational goals we plan to offer a small yearly scholarship to a graduating senior who stands out in community action, volunteer service and grades.

 

THE BIGGEST LOSER

This is another event being planned by SFRs volunteer event coordinator. Keeping in shape is important to so many, so why not some friendly competition within the community? More information will be provided on this "under plans" event as they become available.

 

Monthly Community Events

ADULT BINGO:
First Saturday of each month in the community center starting at 6 p.m.
Bingo cards 25 cent each - all monies raised will be used to purchase prices for next bingo night. First game will be held on June 11.

MOVIE NIGHT:
Third Saturday of month starting at 6 p.m in the community center.
First movie is a "G" rated movie, verify name/type of movie that will play second as it could be PG13. Movies and snacks in whole (or part) are provided by sponsors.

Book Club:

Last Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.

 

CHILDREN BINGO:
Fourth Saturday of month in community center from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Free for community youth.  Snacks and drinks will also be served.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETINGS:
Third Friday of each month in community center starting at 6 p.m.
Public meetings with guest speakers will be announced via bulletin board and other notices
